Recipe Review

Today’s Recipe and Location:  Sesame Noodle Salad
Found in: The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Food From my Frontier
Pages 63      Copyright:  2012  Harper Collins

I figured out that there are 221 calories per serving, if 8 servings are made. (Please note that the calorie counts vary depending on the specific brands of ingredients that you choose to use.)

Sesame Noodle Salad is a satisfying meal.  I loved the cilantro as it gave it a good taste.  The steak is good. I loved minced garlic and needed to thicken the sauce with cornstarch to make it stick to the noodles. I already liked the Simple Sesame Noodles so adding steak just made me happy.  I love any type of beef and this one was great.  I would have liked to marinade the steak or something.  Maybe I just needed to salt the meat more before serving it to myself.

Today’s critics:

Brandy:  Really really good. I will be making this for sure. **Oh, also, I ate both the Noodles and the salad hot, but would be interesting to try it cold....

Serpicos – The steak needed to be marinated

Craft Corner

Painting flower pots is a fun thing to do in the winter so your pots are all ready to go when the spring comes around.  This year it seems like it will be winter forever.  This has been one of the harshest winters we have had in a long time.
I purchased regular clay pots and some fun acrylic paints and let my imagination run wild.  I have hundreds of perennials in my gardens but there is nothing quite like planting annuals to add color to the beds.  I also like the happiness a colorful pot brings to an area.  As I walk around my yard and see all of the yard art and colorful flowers it becomes my personal sanctuary or haven from the world.
When I am finished painting the pot it needs to be sealed so the paint lasts over time. Make sure you air out the room when your finish sealing the pot or you could tox yourself.  Maybe it would be a good idea to paint the pots now and seal them when you can do it in the garage.

Here are two painted pots given to me by my class.  Even kids can create these pots.

Random Reflections

What is a sty?  I know it is an annoyance to me.  But what is it really?  I read so many sources that my head is spinning.  The answer that I got is that basically it is a pimple-like things on the eyelash area that is basically an infection.  I need to scrub the eyelids more to prevent it from happening.  Apparently they usually go away by themselves.
While I was reading I also think I may have had a chalazion.  That is also like a sty except it is away from the lash line.  It has to do with glands oozing something.  The way to help this is by using warm compresses or surgery.
So I have decided to have the sty – even though one of them is a little further in on my eyelid.  I hate this type of thing.  Why me?????

Wants and Wishes

What do I want?  I think that right now the thing I want the most is more time with Donna doing something fun.  We are both so busy that we rarely see each other.
We have such a history of making our own fun.  We used to love to go to garage sales in the summer. Ask Donna about our trip out west where the wisteria grow. Ask her about the bunk bed ladder and random chairs we hauled back.
After we finished shopping, Gen Hoe has been a favorite lunch spot for us. We also love to visit a few stores on Third Street in Geneva.  Those trips were always fun.
This summer we both need to free ourselves and spend some friend time.
