Week 15 Saturday (4/19/14)

Recipe Review

Today’s Recipe and Location:  Lasagna
Found in: The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Recipes from an Accidental Country Girl
Pages  184-185     Copyright:  2009  Harper Collins

I figured out that there are 499 calories per serving, if 16 servings are made. (Please note that the calorie counts vary depending on the specific brands of ingredients that you choose to use.)

This is a great dish.  I love the meat sauce and can see now why Ree makes five pounds of this sauce at a time. On a recent show, she prepared many dishes to freeze so she could prepare a dinner quickly.
The sauce has two types of meat which makes it better than any of the lasagnas I have had in the past. This recipe is similar to my Mom’s in that it is made with cottage cheese. I truly think it makes it much creamier than using ricotta. I love all of the cheeses. The flavor was so good that I will definitely use Ree's recipe in the future. This one is a keeper.

Random Reflections

I love driving in the country, as you have all probably figured out from this blog. I came upon a cute old cemetery on Mighell Rd. just south of Sugar Grove. It is small and quaint and probably was a family cemetery for the Mighell family. The first tombstone I encountered was the one in photo of one of the family members. The cemetery is surrounded by cornfields, so I am making an assumption that this small cemetery is for the people of the area.

I have never really liked cemeteries. I do not plan on being buried because for some reason that creeps me out. I don’t want my family and friends to visit me in a graveyard, but to just remember me as they last saw me.

This is getting pretty morbid and I didn’t even intend to do that now. But for the record, I want to be cremated and have my ashes sprinkled in my gardens. Even though my family will sell the house, they can remember me when they see a beautiful flower or plant.

Helpful Home Hints

Over the weekend, I organized the bathroom cabinets. At Bed, Bath, and Beyond, I purchased a two tier set of drawers for under the sink for each bathroom.  This makes life so much better because things seem to get lost in the back of the cabinet, and it is wasted space because it is unreachable.  Think about investigating these little shelves for your bathrooms.
