Hoppin’
John is a old favorite (1840s) in the Southern states for a New Year’s
Celebration. It is a combination of rice, pork, and black-eyed peas. The
thought is that it came from the South Carolina plantations. There are
differing opinions as to the origin of the name. It is tied in to New Year’s
because it is said to bring good luck. I can honestly say that I don’t believe
in luck. I think that we set ourselves up for success. They usually served it
with good old cornbread and collard greens (not a favorite of this girl).
Enjoy!

Wants and Wishes
Today,
I want to celebrate the life of my Aunt Marge Stevenson. She was a fireball.
She always told it like it was, and rarely minced words. I loved that about
her.
She
had a strong faith and believed in the Lord with all of her heart and mind. She
lived a Godly life, and has now gone to live with my wonderful Uncle Lyle. I
will miss her so much. She was a true blessing to all who knew her.
