What the Beck???

Jalapeno Cheese Bread

Recipe Review

Today’s Recipe and Location: Jalapeno Cheese Bread
Found in: The Pioneer Woman blog

I figured out that there are 516 calories, if 8 servings are made. (Please note that the calorie counts vary depending on the specific brands of ingredients that you choose to use.)

This bread is fabulous!  I already loved Ree’s Olive bread and this one is also wonderful.  I was blessed the day that I discovered The Pioneer Woman.  I am having so much fun cooking her recipes.

Here are the ingredients that I used to create this recipe.

I began by combining the butter, olives, jalapenos, and chilies.

I added in the sliced green onions.

The mayo was added next to the mix.

I couldn't find any white cheddar, so I added regular cheddar.

I then put in the pepper jack cheese.

Now it was just a matter of mixing it all together.

I split the bread in half.

I spread it over the the bread, and then wrapped it in foil.

This is the little sample that I ate.

These can be frozen to use for an upcoming party.
When I cook them in the oven, I just lay the
foil flat and cook for 20 minutes.

What the Beck???

Recipe Review

Today’s Recipe and Location: Spicy Baby Back Ribs
Found in: The Pioneer Woman blog

I figured out that there are 520 calories, if 18 servings are made. (Please note that the calorie counts vary depending on the specific brands of ingredients that you choose to use.)

I truly loved these ribs. I shared them with my Mom and Ron, Susan and Rick and Kim and Greg.  I had a great review from all of them.  I love it when we have a thumbs up all around.

Here are the ingredients that I used to create this recipe.

I began making the marinade by heating the pop,
BBQ sauce, and brown sugar.

I added in the chipotle peppers in adobo sauce

Next, in went the brown mustard.

 The vinegar was added next.

The garlic was finely chopped and added to the marinade.

I cooked it until it thickened and reduced.

I put the ribs on foil

The ribs were covered with sauce on both sides and refrigerated overnight. The next day I cooked them and continued to apply the sauce until they were finished and yummy.

They were the best!

What the Beck???

Happy Birthday Lindsay!!!

Big Grocery Shopping

Since I have been trying to eat the food in my freezer,
I had to make a monster grocery shopping trip to make
about five to six recipes for the upcoming blogs.
Stay tuned for new Pioneer Woman recipes coming soon.

The Mandevillas are Here!!!!

I was happy to be able to buy both
red and bright pink.
I bought four pink and two red.

My dining room will be their home
until the overnight temperature
stays above 55 degrees.

Bucket List Update
Academy Award Nominated Movies

I did a 2015 Movie Marathon this week.  I watched all of the nominated movies for that year . Whew!  It was a wonderful movie week. Thank God for XFinity movie rentals.

Spotlight
starring: Mark Ruffalo, Michael Keaton, Rachel McAdams, Liv             Schreiber, John Slattery, Brian Darcy, Stanley Tucci
plot – This movie showed the scandal discovered by the              Boston Globe newspaper of the sexual misconduct by          80 Catholic priests in Boston.
I had heard of the scandal, but didn’t know the enormous scope of the problem. Great acting. This one won the Academy Award for Best Picture.

Room
starring: Brie Larson, Jacob Tremblay, Sean Bridgers.
plot – A young woman is abducted and kept in a shed       for 7+ years. She is raped by her captor and has a        son. The story shows of their life in the shed and        their adjustment when they escape.
This was a great movie. Most of the movie is of the Ma and her son. This was a heart-wrenching story, and I was amazed and applaud the acting of Brie and the young boy, Jacob.

The Big Short
starring: Christian Bale, Steve Carrel, Brad Pitt, Ryan Gosling,             Melissa Leo, John Madaro, and Hamish Linklater.
plot – A man named Burry bet against the housing market,           discovering that mortgage loans were being given to           people who could not really afford them when the             variable amount loans rose. He and a group of others bet       against the market and made a fortune when the               economy collapsed. This movie was based in truth.
This movie taught me a lot about the crash of the economy. I knew that it happened, but never really understood the cause. This was such a great educational movie for me.

Bridge of Spies
starring: Tom Hanks, Mark Rylance, Alan Alda, Scott                    Shepherd, Amy Ryan, and Sebastian Koch
plot – Inspired by true events, this is the story of how an             American insurance lawyer first defended a Communist       spy, and then is instrumental in the exchange of the spy       and two American prisoners during the Cold War.
Tom Hanks is such a premier actor and so believable in the role of the lawyer. Once again, I learned so much about this time in history! This is a great year for movies.

Brooklyn
starring: Saoirse Ronan, Domhnall Gleeson, Julie Walter,                Emory Cohen, Jim Broadbent
plot – The wonderful story of an Irish girl who comes to the          United States and settles in Brooklyn thanks to a priest        who gets her a job.
I liked this movie. It wasn’t as deep as many of the others, but it was refreshing and truly showed the difficulty of coming to a new country.

The Martian
starring: Matt Damon, Jessica Chastian, Kristin Wilg, Jeff                 Daniels, Michael Pena, Sean Bean, Kate Marc,                   Sebastian Stan, Axel Henny, Mackenzie Davis.
plot – An U.S. astronaut gets left on the planet Mars, and is            presumed dead. He is a Botanist and survives using his        intelligence. Great ending.
I was surprised how much I loved this movie. This movie showed how important Science is for our survival as well as for the development of problem solving skills and ability. Yes, Steve – I shocked myself!!!

The Revenant
starring: Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hardy, Domhnall Gleeson,            Will Poulter, Forrest Goodluck, Duane Howard, and            Arthur Redcloud.
plot – The story of Hugh Glass who was hunting for pelts with        a group of men. Action packed and at times gruesome        story that included a horrible bear attack, use of                survival skills, greed, honor, and endurance.
WOW!  DiCaprio was outstanding. A year ago, I had a week’s worth of nightmares about being killed by a bear due to my obsession with the Alaska T.V. shows. This movie just reaffirmed by fear of bears.  Yikes!!

Mad Max: Fury Road
starring: Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron

plot – Set after the apocalypse, Mad Max helps a group of            women escape an evil man. The entire movie takes            place in an unforgiving desert. The women find their          home is no longer livable and need to return to the            danger.
This seemed like a giant car chase with an overload of violence and killing. I truly hated this movie, which is not a surprise since it seemed Sci-Fi ish to me.  If you like car chases, blowing things up, fighting to the death, and little plot...then this is the movie for you!

What the Beck???

Happy Belated Birthday Linda!!!

Sur la Table Shopping Spree!!!!

Here is my haul from my two classes at Sur la Table

Trip #1:  Cutting like a Pro class

I fell in love with this covered basket.
This would be perfect for food served outside.
This will keep out the darn flies.

It is huge and will make refills unnecessary.
This entire thing is really sturdy and heavy.
It is definitely good quality.
This purchase had absolutely nothing to do
with the class I took. I just fell in love with it.

This is the cutting or scraping tool that I told you about
in my blog.  I love the measurements as I
really stink at estimating them.

These are the two cutting boards that I bought.
I was sold due to the rubber edges that prevent
slipping and sliding during cutting. A problem
that I did have with my heavy plastic boards.
Two colors - because one is for meat and the other
for fruits and veggies.  Do you have two??

Class #2:  Canning and Preserving

This is one of the pots we used in class, and Laura,
our instructor, liked this type because you
can load the jars before lowering all of them
into the water.  It avoids splashing.

The speckling reminds me of the pots
from my old west unit at school.

I bought this kit which has the basics for
canning and preserving. The tool atop of the
can inside lid is not my favorite, so I
bought it separate because it does not have a release.

Here they are unpacked, and in my home ready to go.

This magnet is the best way to put the lids on the jars.
It is similar to the one above, but better!

When you push down the button at the top it stops
the magnet, and releases the top and ring atop
the sterilized jar.

I told you about this funnel, but you couldn't
see the measurements which are fab!

I found this shortbread pan which was beautiful.

It is even better close up.
Of course, I have never made shortbread,
but I have the pan for when I decide to tackle this project.
Yes, it was an impulse buy!

It is hard to see what this tool is from this angle....

Ta Da....I pie, cake, or quiche slicer.
This makes the perfect cuts.

I love making biscuits, and these are heavy, sturdy
good quality cutters.

This is a doughnut and doughnut hole cutter.
Ree has two doughnut recipes that I haven't
tackled yet.  No excuse now!

This is the craziest thing I bought.  If you have a lot of
garlic to peel, you can put a lot of cloves in this
tube and roll it around, using pressure, and they
come out perfectly clean every time.

I needed a blurry cheese slicer.
Okay, maybe not the blur...

Sur la Table also sells boxes of mixes, so I
thought that I would try this one...for
the heck of it!

Lemon Poppy Seed doughnuts!!
What more could a person want to eat??
Am I nervous and shaking the camera??
What is worth the blur??

Or well...
In case you were worried....I did sign up for
two more classes at Sur la Table:
"Flavors of the South" and "Perfect Pies"
I love love love these classes.
