Slave Cemetery

As we were touring the hay fields, I also asked
Denise to take me by the slave cemetery in the pasture.
Once again, we were on "The Gator."

This is the old slave cemetery located on Barnett Farm.

Over time the walls have fallen flat and the
stones all moved around.
The location of this cemetery has been passed
down by word of mouth.

I have to say that it is a beautiful location for a cemetery.
The pond and tree line make a great background.

This has nothing to do with the cemetery, but I
think every farm should have a gate like this one.
It is right by the front of the drive,
and it is fabulous.

Newest Purchase

What is with the delivery process??
This is one of the two boxes delivered to my home.
My new patio chairs were in this scary box.

I have no idea how the chairs were not damaged.

I hired a fabulous young man named Jacob to
assemble the table and chairs. He has worked
for me in the past when he assembled my
four white rocking chairs on the cottage porch.

Jacob did a great job!
These chairs are so comfortable.
I am thrilled that I ordered this on Amazon.
They do need to do something about
the handling of the boxes sent out.
Thank Heavens that nothing was
damaged in the delivery.

Tree Trimming & Removal

In the front of my home are two "tree bushes"
I was not sure which they were - trees or bushes. I called
the tree trimmer and told him that I wanted them
to look like trees. They are Linden trees. The
original purpose was to have them as a wind
block, but to me I called them a viewbreaker!

I used Vittitoe Tree Service in Bardstown.
He began by cutting in and then working
his way around the base.

This was a good start, but I wanted it
trimmed out much higher up.

Much better!
I can see the barn driveway as well as the Lane.
It looks like a tree.  One down...one to go.
Look at the dirt tree circle.  That was all
bush before he began.  YIKES!!

That machine on the side sucks the branches
in and turns them to mulch.

Almost done!

I am one happy homeowner!!
My view is great.
I have had a lot of positive response on doing this job.

Now, on to the backyard.
This tree was dying and needed to be totally removed.

So close! He ran out of gas,
so he filled it up and began finishing
the job.

It's down

It was interesting to watch how this was completed.

A little at a time

The final cut.

The cleanup.

The final job was to cutup the stump in the
back and two additional stumps that were
in the yard.

This is one cool machine that was run
by remote control.

It was a monster machine.

I am so thrilled that this is completed.
I am working hard to accomplish something
major every week, so that I am getting
things done, as I wait for the roofer, sider, and
fence to be put up.

If you need a great tree trimmer I recommend:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TOMORROW
WYATT!!!

Farm Cats and Dogs

The Barnett Farm Animals
These are some of the cats on the Barnett Farm.
They are so cute, but feral.

I love them.  I am hoping that as they patrol the area
at night, they kill any mice near my house, too.

Apparently, the cats have tunnels in the woodpile
where they spend a lot of their time.
Their eyes were watchin' me.

This is Liza, one of the Barnett's farm dogs.

She is a sweet girl who occasionally thinks
she is a coyote.  She loves to howl at night.

This is Zeus, the real guard dog. He lets us
know when someone or something is out
there.  However, he is really a sweetheart.

Now, on to my farm dogs!
(what a joke!)

This is Sabrina.  She is definitely my watchdog.
She barks at any noise or person. Unfortunately,
she can't follow through, because she is terrified.
She is also debarked, but it still helps
that I have been warned.

This is Sweet Sage.  Like Sabrina she lets me
know as soon as anything or anyone is around.
She is good about running to me to make sure I
am aware of an intruder.  You know just like
Lassie did when Timmy fell down the well.
To me, then back to the wind, repeat until I look outside.

No one will ever be frightened away by my guard dogs.
However, I will always know something is wrong.
I am blessed to have my dogs and the Barnett dogs
to make me feel safe in my new home.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TODAY
McGill and Tim!!!!

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TOMORROW
Bill and Donna!!!!

The Pool Comes Down

This is a nice pool.  It is pretty big and is about four feet deep.
Unfortunately, my insurance company insisted that it be
fenced in, which was an expense I didn't want at this time.
I am also not really a pool person.

I gave the pool to a wonderful couple, Richard and Miranda
and their beautiful daughter Phoenix.
The first thing they took out on Memorial
Day was the deck.

All that was left was the cement footings,
which they took home the next day.

We began by using one hose to empty the water.
Overnight, that really didn't even make a dent,
so we started three more hoses, and it was draining
as they took down the deck and loaded it and the
pool supplies and toys on the trailer.

On Day two, the water was all out and Richie, Richard's
Dad, came and released the liner.

"and the walls came a'tumblin' down."
Okay, not really.  It was a lot of work
for the two to begin winding up the
walls.  It was extremely heavy!

They dug these holes to get the posts or poles out.

I love the way the father and son worked together!
They are great people.

It is almost rolled up, and then the terrible
trip getting it to the truck.

It is all gone, and I have been scooping
the rocks and dirt into the holes.
Braden and JT, my neighbors, helped me.

This mound of weeds has been sprayed with
Round-Up, thanks to Robbie Blanford.  When it is
all dead and cleaned out, I plan to get the pool area
filled in and seeded. Then, I will once again have a
perfect rolling lawn.

It looks so bare, but soon it
will be just beautiful and green.
