Recipe Review

Today’s Recipe and Location: Orange Bars
Found in: The Pioneer Woman blog

I figured out that there are 207 calories, if 16 servings are made. (Please note that the calorie counts vary depending on the specific brands of ingredients that you choose to use.)

If you love lemon bars, then this may be something you might want to try. Orange bars, like lemon, are refreshing and a sweet surprise. I thought these bars were great. I took some to Barnetts, and the others went to the library for the knitting group as well as the library staff. I had a very positive response for these bars. Way to go, Ree!

I began making these bars by adding flour,

sugar,

and kosher salt to a bowl.

The final ingredient in the crust is to add
in the butter cubes, and then use a pastry
cutter until the crust looks like crumbs.

I was almost ready to put it in a pan.

I used my fingers to press the crust into the pan,
and then bake it until golden.

To make the filling you need to add sugar,

and flour into a bowl.

I added in the eggs and used my whisk to stir it together.

I took the zest and juice from the oranges
and added it into filling bowl.

After I stirred the filling mixture together, I
poured it over the crust and baked it.

This is the final product. I did sift powdered
sugar over the bars prior to serving.
Mmmmmmm Good!

What the Beck???

Today’s Recipe and Location: Snickerdoodles
Found in: The Pioneer Woman blog

I figured out that there are 215 calories, if 20 servings are made. (Please note that the calorie counts vary depending on the specific brands of ingredients that you choose to use.)

I loved these cookies. I first made them in high school foods class, and still love them today. I shared these with Jerome and Travis, my remodelers, as well as the staff at Masterson’s Appliance store. These cookies are so easy to make and loved by almost everyone who loves cinnamon.  Thanks for a great recipe, Ree.

I began by mixing the dry ingredients.
In went the flour,

 the cream of tartar,

 baking soda,

 and salt.

I whisked the ingredients and then
set the bowl aside to use later.

In my mixer bowl, I added the butter,

and sugar and creamed them together.

 I love action shots.

Once the eggs and sugar are blended, I added in the eggs.

It is important to slowly add the dry
ingredients to the mixer.

The dough is now ready to roll into balls.

The balls will be rolled into cinnamon sugar.
I mixed the sugar with

 the cinnamon, and then
stirred them together. I rolled each
ball in and placed it on my covered
baking sheets. I love my liners,
because clean-up is a cinch!

The finished product.
My kitchen smelled like Heaven.

What the Beck???

Remodeling Update

This little chandelier will go in my fabulous
walk-in bedroom closet.

We are putting in six canned lights in the living room.

These are the new smoke/carbon monoxide alarms
for the workroom. I am also putting in all new
smoke/carbon monoxide detectors in the main house.
I think it is important to replace all of the units on
the property, so I know to replace them in ten years.
Frequently, people change the batteries twice a
year. Have you changed the actual unit lately??
Think about it!

I ordered this vanity for the master bath.
However, there are some differences.
Mine is 6 feet long, has 2 bowls and has
2 drawers in the middle and a cabinet
on each end. I love that the drawers have
the soft close feature. No slamming drawers
in this house.

I also ordered 2 mirrors, as they do not make a large
rectangular one to go above the larger unit.
This color looks fabulous with the tile I selected.

In the master bedroom, I decided to add a
barn door for the bathroom entrance.

Of all of the ones I looked at,
this was the most unique. I liked
the idea of a door that doesn't open
in to the room. Just slide it!

What the Beck???

The Best of Nelson County 2017

Background:  I was reading The Kentucky Standard, our local newspaper, and they had a section called The Best of Nelson County 2017. This section listed 100 categories for the Readers' Choice Awards. This is the ninth installation of my visits to these winning business locations.

#36    Best Golf Course:
The winner was Maywood Bardstown Country Club

This country club is located at:
130 Maywood Avenue, Bardstown
502 - 348 - 6600
Hours 7 am - 9 pm all week

After knitting on October 30th, I went to lunch with
my friends. Mary and Arneida are pictured.

The waitress and Linda

I love these girls. They are so
much fun to be with every week.
(L - R) Me, Arneida, Mary, Bernadine, Linda,
and Grace (seated)

I thought the food was fabulous!  My
burger was so large, that I took half of
it home for dinner. I will definitely eat here again.

#94    Best Tree Service:
The winner was Vittitoe Tree Service

This  is located at: 5135 Old Boston Road,
Bardstown, KY 40004
502 - 348 - 3820
Open 24 hours

I have written about this company before
when they trimmed two of these monstrous
trees, because they blocked my view.

They did a fabulous work on
property.

Better that you hire Vittitoe to remove old
or damaged trees before they
fall on one of your buildings.

What the Beck???

The Girls
Sage and Sabrina are so happy that the
cool weather has finally come to Kentucky.

Sabrina always looks like she is going to
say something at any minute.

You are a sweet, coy dog little Bree.

Sage loves the wind.

The Combine Harvester

The combine arrived two weeks ago
to cut down the corn. Here he is
on my bottom land.

Turning the corners looked like a challenge.

It was fun to watch him cut the crops on my property.

Here he comes.

Harvesting corn is a dirty, dusty event.

I took this through the fence. It looks
like the combine is so close.
Ya gotta love the zoom feature on cameras.
